Top day trips from Oxford by public transport

Moving into a new city for university can be stressful, especially when you want to explore the area around it but don’t know where to even start or how long it will take to get there.

We have taken the hard part out of it all and found five of the best places around Oxford for you to explore on day trips!


1.      Windsor Castle

is an unmissable place to visit! The town itself is packed with history and if you’re in luck, the Queen will be in residence whilst you explore the town. It’s only a 2-hour train journey from Oxford making it an easy day trip to explore with your flatmates.

2.      Explore central London

Only a 50-minutes away to Paddington on the train and a quick change from there onto the Elizabeth line will get you into central London on a shopping trip, to watch a show in the theatre or just discover the city and all it has to offer!


3.      Hiking in the Cotswolds

Grab a train from Oxford to Finstock Station and get lost in the stunning scenes of the Cotswold countryside! The journey is only an hour train ride and you could take some good friends, pack up some food and make it a day out… just be sure to wear comfortable shoes for a day full of walking!


4.      Blenheim Palace

is a world heritage site with stunning gardens to explore and tours around the house that will bring out the historian and art fanatic within you. It’s only a 36-minute bus journey and the perfect place to go and clear your mind from upcoming exam stress and studying.

5.      Visit Birmingham!

Catch a train up to Birmingham and visit the sites, just over an hour journey and it’s also a must-see when the Christmas markets open. With a bunch of different stalls to visit it’s a great place to go with your new flatmates.
